Papers, 1863-1888.

ArchivalResource

Papers, 1863-1888.

Collection includes 3 letters of Edward M. Hanford to his sister Sarah in Unionville, New York, while serving in the army during the Civil War. Written at various places, the content tends to concern mostly personal and family matters. The letter of June 30, 1864 from Hart Island, suggest that he may have been involved in the company band. Also includes two pocket diaries for the years 1864 and 1888. The diary of 1864 contains little information apart from an occasional note about a fellow soldier. The latter diary details daily activities and weather conditions.
